Slim Jim Phantom is the legendary drummer for the Stray Cats.
Alongside band mates Brian Setzer and Lee Rocker, he spearheaded the neo-rockabilly movement of the early 80s.

Born in the Brooklyn Borough of New York City, Jim grew up listening to his parents’ jazz records and by the age of ten took up the drums. “To be honest I think the drums chose me, I can’t remember ever wanting to do anything else.” remembers Phantom. Immersing himself in the art of drumming and the world of music, Jim took lessons with Mousie Alexander (who played with Benny Goodman) which included the study of jazz and working through books by Jim Chapin and Ted Reed.

By the late 70s Jim was playing in bands with school friend and bassist Lee Rocker and they soon joined forces with guitarist Brian Setzer. During downtime from the Stray Cats, Jim played a part in many successful groups notably “Phantom, Rocker and Slick” featuring guitarist Earl Slick which produced two popular albums and “The Swing Cats” featuring guitar ace Danny B Harvey. Jim also enjoyed a stint playing with Jerry Lee Lewis.

Most recently Jim has been involved with three main projects; his ownroots-rock trio, “Dead Men Walking” with Kirk Brandon, Mike Peters and Captain Sensible and “The Head Cat” starring Lemmy and Danny B. Harvey.

Mimulus aurantiacus, the Orange Bush Monkey-flower or Sticky Monkey-flower, is a flowering plant that grows in a subshrub form, native to southwestern North America from southwestern Oregon south through most of California. It is treated by some botanists in a separate genus from other Mimulus as Diplacus aurantiacus (Curtis) Jeps.

It grows to between 0.5-1.2 m tall, and has deep green sticky leaves 3-7 cm long and 5-10 mm broad, and flowering stems that grow vertically. The flowers are tube-like at the base, 20-25 mm long, with five broad lobes; they occur in a variety of shades from white to red, the most common color being a light orange. They are pollinated by bees and hummingbirds.

It grows in many climates and will thrive in many types of soil, wet, dry, sandy, or rocky. It even grows in serpentine, a soil that most plants have difficulty thriving in because of its unique mineral composition.

The Miwok and Pomo Native Americans used the Sticky Monkey’s flowers and roots to treat a number of ailments, but was particularly useful for its antiseptic qualities as it expedited the healing of minor scrapes and burns.

A P-type semiconductor (P for Positive) is obtained by carrying out a process of doping, that is adding a certain type of atoms to the semiconductor in order to increase the number of free (in this case positive) charge carriers.

When the doping material is added, it takes away (accepts) weakly-bound outer electrons from the semiconductor atoms. This type of doping agent is also known as acceptor material and the semiconductor atoms that have lost an electron are known as holes.

The purpose of P-type doping is to create an abundance of holes. In the case of silicon, a trivalent atom (typically from group IIIA of the periodic table, such as boron or aluminium) is substituted into the crystal lattice. The result is that one electron is missing from one of the four covalent bonds normal for the silicon lattice. Thus the dopant atom can accept an electron from a neighboring atoms’ covalent bond to complete the fourth bond. Such dopants are called acceptors. The dopant atom accepts an electron, causing the loss of half of one bond from the neighboring atom and resulting in the formation of a “hole”. Each hole is associated with a nearby negative-charged dopant ion, and the semiconductor remains electrically neutral as a whole. However, once each hole has wandered away into the lattice, one proton in the atom at the hole’s location will be “exposed” and no longer cancelled by an electron. For this reason a hole behaves as a quantity of positive charge. When a sufficiently large number of acceptor atoms are added, the holes greatly outnumber the thermally-excited electrons. Thus, the holes are the majority carriers, while electrons are the minority carriers in P-type materials. Blue diamonds (Type IIb), which contain boron (B) impurities, are an example of a naturally occurring P-type semiconductor.

Vic Flowers born April 16th 1952 is the acting leader of the Barmy Army, a group of English cricket supporters noted for passionately following the English cricket team around the world. Flowers is from Oldham and is nicknamed Jimmy Savile because of his resemblance to the disc jockey of the same name. Flowers is noted for his crazy outfits, as well as leading the Barmy Army chants. His antics have brought his attention to the England team itself, and when the team that had won the 2005 Ashes toured London in an open-topped bus to a celebration in Trafalgar Square, Flowers was invited up in the Square to lead the chants.

Blush Response is a synth pop band based in Los Angeles, California, USA.

They are best known as the band that split from Brandon Flowers in 2001 when he declined to relocate to Los Angeles with them. Flowers did not sing for the band - instead he played the keyboard. Flowers went on to be one of the founding members of The Killers, when he noticed a classified ad for them in a local newspaper.

Blush Response is on the Various Artist collection Electricity - An Electropop Sampler on Ninthwave Records under the name Subversion with a song called “The Victim.” It is not known if Flowers was a member at the time of this recording.

Blush Response is also the title of a track on the Blade Runner soundtrack, which was composed by Vangelis. In the film, suspected replicants were examined by a Voight-Kampff machine. Blush response was one of the criteria by which humans could be discerned from replicants.
It should be noted that the Vangelis track in question sounds nothing at all like the band Blush Response.

Taqwacore is a genre of punk music dealing with Islam and its culture, originally conceived in Michael Muhammad Knight’s novel, The Taqwacores. The name is a portmanteau of hardcore and the Arabic word Taqwa, which is usually translated as “piety” or the quality of being “God-fearing”, and thus roughly denotes fear and love of the divine.

The first bands to use the term taqwacore are The Kominas, 8-bit and Vote Hezbollah.

There is not a definitive “taqwacore sound,” as artists incorporate various styles, ranging from punk to hip-hop, and musical traditions from the Muslim world; the Kominas describe their sound as “Bollywood punk” while Al-Thawra uses the term “raicore,” based on Arabic rai music.

Luzula campestris is a rush commonly known as Field Wood-rush, Good Friday Grass or Sweep’s Brush. It is a very common plant throughout temperate Europe and Asia. It is found on all types of grassland including lawns, golf-courses and fields. It is relatively short, between 5 cm and 15 cm tall. It spreads via short stolons and also via seed produced in one stemless cluster of flowers together with three to six stemmed clusters of flowers. It flowers between March and June in the northern temperate zone (September to December in the southern hemisphere) and can be a peristent weed of decorative grassland. The chromosome number is 12, 24 or 36.

The closely related Luzula multiflora, native in much of North America, is treated as a variety of Luzula campestris by many botanists, though the Flora of North America treats it as distinct. Other very similar species occur in Malaysia and New Zealand.
